Counselors and Staff
Who We Are
Our counselors endeavor to be led by the Holy Spirit and guided by the Word of God. Along with Dr. Johnson, other male and female counselors from various denominations and specialties are available to meet the specific needs of our clientele.
Dr. James E. Johnson, L.C.S.W., D.Min., Director
Dr. Johnson has 40 years counseling experience. He holds degrees in counseling and theology and is an ordained minister, as well as a licensed and certified counselor. He has authored three books: The Gift of a Sound Mind, Freedom From Depression, and Weaving the Family Tapestry. Dr. Johnson specializes in family, couples, and individual counseling.
Lois Shank Gerber, MS.Ed., Counselor
Lois Shank Gerber has a Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics from Eastern Mennonite University and a Master's in Counseling from The University of Akron and has been counseling for 17 years. She works with women, depression, anxiety, inner healing, verbal and sexual abuse, relationships and bereavement. She feels a kinship with the Plain community and enjoys working with them. Lois is married to Lowell, who serves as pastor of a Mennonite Church.
Dave Brubaker, M.A.M.F.T., Counselor
Dave Brubaker has been with Upward Call and Shepherd's Touch since 2007. He obtained his M.A.M.F.T degree at the Evangelical Theological Seminary. Dave specializes in pre-marital and marriage counseling, as well as individual counseling and grief and loss counseling. Dave also works part-time as a Chaplain Associate at Lancaster General Hospital. He and his wife have been married for 25 years and have three children.
Melissa Ticen, M.A.M.F.C, Counselor
Melissa Ticen joined Shepherd's Touch as a counselor in 2005. She obtained her B.S. in Bible with an emphasis in Counseling from Bible Baptist College and her Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling from Lancaster Bible College. She specializes in the areas of relationships, abuse, grief, cutting, depression, eating disorders, self-esteem, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and anxiety. Melissa is married and has one daughter.
Chris Blair, M.A.M.F.T., Counselor
Chris Blair joined Upward Call/Shepherd's Touch in October 2010. He obtained his M.A.M.F.T. degree at Evangelical Theological Seminary and specializes in marriage and family issues and addictions. He has worked with adolescents in a residential drug and alcohol facility as well as in an adult drug and alcohol outpatient facility. Chris is married and has three daughters.
Lisa Fritz, MSW, LSW, Counselor
Lisa joined Upward Call and Shepherd's Touch in February 2011. She obtained her B.S. in Child Development and Family Relations from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her Masters in Social Work from Millersville University. She enjoys working with children and families and specializes in working with depression and anxiety, as well as other mental health issues. Lisa is married and has two daughters.
Amy Brubaker, M.S. Health Psychology, Counselor
Amy Brubaker joined Upward Call and Shepherd's Touch in May 2012. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Temple University and her Master's of Science in Health Psychology from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She specializes in behavioral weight management. Amy works full time at J&J Haimes LLC, a sales and marketing firm in Mountville and volunteers with Lighten Up Lancaster Coalition. In her spare time she enjoys cooking and spending time with friends.
Stephen and Dianna Shull, Marriage Mentors
Stephen and Dianna Shull joined the staff of Upward Call and Shepherd's Touch in 2009. Dianna has a counseling certificate from the Evening Institute at Lancaster Bible College. Together, they led a "Homebuilders" group, attended counselor training at Abundant Living in Lititz and served as mentors to couples in their church. They work with individual couples and train other couples for churches desiring to develop a marriage ministry. Learn more about their Marriage Mentoring Ministry (PDF). Stephen and Dianna are blessed with 42 wonderful years of marriage, three children and five grandchildren.
Melissa Herr, Office Manager
Melissa joined Upward Call and Shepherd's Touch in April of 2010. She is a graduate of Messiah College and worked in the health field, assisting individuals, families, and schools to develop healthy lifestyle habits and programs. More recently, she served as a Promotions Manager for a concert tour. Melissa and her husband, Jason, live in Leola and attend the Worship Center in Lancaster.
Crystal Gregg, Office Assistant, Shepherd's Touch Campus
Crystal joined Upward Call and Shepherd's Touch Counseling Ministry as an intern in February 2010 and officially began as Office Assistant in May 2010. She is a graduate of Pequea Valley High School and YTI Career Institute, where she earned her Associate's Degree in Business Administration. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, drinking coffee, reading and spending time with her family, friends and two dogs.
Mary Jane Sauder, Office Assistant, Upward Call Campus
Mary Jane Sauder joined the staff at the New Holland office as Office Assistant in December 2009. She received her certification as a Biblical Counselor from the International Board of Christian Counselors and served her church in that capacity for ten years. She is also a bookkeeper and budget coach. Mary Jane and her husband, Earl, have five children and ten grandchildren. |
